Meet Isis.Meet Isis.{UPDATE: Sadly Isis is the first pet from Operation Portrait PAWsitive that we have lost. Shortly after her time at the studio, Isis became very aggressive with KHS staff, and combined with her failing health, it was concluded that she wasn't fit for adoption. I mourned this beautiful lady... But she will always be remembered here.}


When this little white bundle arrived silently at the studio, she didn't have a name. A stray from the Bremerton area, this shy Siamese kitty won me over the second I glanced through the door of the kennel to see her piercing blue eyes. In honor of those ice-colored eyes, combined with her Siamese heritage and her sandy fur, I chose the name "Isis"~ I can just see her beautiful face painted in a hieroglyphic on some ancient tomb.


Little Isis is very shy. She was so eager to stay in her kennel that I ended up building her a little shelter to hide in while I photographed her. While watching her watch me, I realized that it is very possible that Isis doesn't see well. Her eyes scan quickly back and forth in the direction of sound or smell~ It could be that those beautiful baby blues of hers have been reduced to more decoration then function. This handicap would explain her extreme shyness.


More then any other feline I have met thus far through Operation Portrait PAWsitive, I wanted to take Isis home. She has some hair loss on her back end and although she has beautiful markings, her fur is course from malnutrition. I realized fairly quickly that it was more important to give Isis some love, then to get her portrait, so I spent a great deal of time petting and speaking to her... This TLC paid off and she actually purred.


Isis is thought to be about 2 years old. It is clear that she has had a hard life and is in great need of someone to nurse her back to health. She very much enjoys being scratched behind the ears and on her neck and she also likes to be held. I know there is someone out there looking to be the one Isis learns to trust and love... She is certainly a beautiful creature, more than worthy of a chance.

Meet Midnight.

Meet Midnight. {UPDATE: Midnight was joyfully adopted on Saturday, April 29th}



Midnight is a darling new mother. When she arrived at the studio, she had just weaned a litter of kittens. It looks also, as if she was very recently spayed.

I think perhaps momma Midnight was searching for her babies, as she scoured every nook and cranny of the studio, meowing. She is a very curious girl who loves to sit in the window and beside the door... watching the world go by.




Midnight is thought to be about a year and a half and she was released to the Humane Society because her family was moving from their home in Bremerton. She is an active and very affectionate girl who is a sucker for catnip and does well with other cats and children. She seems very thin and a bit tired (she's been feeding several little kittens... she's been a very busy lady!) She could really use a family to pamper and love her and her very own windowsill!

Westsound Wildlife Auction SUCCESS!!

West Sound Wildlife Shelter Auction is a huge success!





In a warm, colorful fashion fit for a Northwest Spring, Kiana was beautifully decorated for the second annual West Sound Wildlife Auction. All in attendance seemed thrilled with the details... From the beautiful beach-glass centerpieces, to the famed "Kiana signature salmon dinner".


It was a lively evening full of wonderful treasures...Complete with the highly anticipated "African Safari" and a full collection of Scottish Whiskeys.

Other notable items were several wonderful framed pieces of art, including a beautiful photo of stampeding elephants by a famed National Geographic photographer.

As usual there was a "bidding frenzy" for gift certificates to our favorite local restaurant... The most popular being the Four Swallows.



Bainbridge Island Mayor Darlene Kordonowy was in attendance... I caught her peeking at the Auction catalogue between bites. Among other friends, Wes & Andrea of Roby King Galleries and Kathleen Thorne of Arts and Humanities were found close by... Enjoying the festivities to the max!



All in all I think the event was a successful one. It's always a good sign when the attendees are dancing in line to pay for their purchases!

The event, held at the beautiful Kiana Lodge, will feature Kiana Lodge's signature salmon dinner, and both a live and silent auction. Kiana Lodge is located on the waterfront between Poulsbo and the Suquamish Casino at 14976 Sandy Hook Road NE. Dress is business casual and festive attire.

Meet Roxanne{UPDATE: After one almost-adoption, Roxanne was taken home today, 4/24 by a wonderful family who is very excited to have her!}



Roxanne is an all around lady. She walks on a leash politely, sits, stays, lays down, shakes and even "dances"~ She is the perfect Beagle-Shepard mix for someone out there who appreciates obedience!



Roxy is very willing to "perform" for treats and she's very eager to go for car-rides. She has obviously been crate trained because she hops right in and her short thick little body is the perfect size for a front-seat companion!

It appears that Roxanne was released to the Humane Society because she was left alone all day in the back yard and took to digging. She is familiar with a 4-foot fence and would love for someone to play fetch with!



I wanted to take Roxanne home with ME, she was so wonderful. I don't think it will be hard to find her an active home where she isn't left alone all the time. I give her an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up... She has been well-trained and well-loved and we are eager to find her an owner willing to sign-up for the job forever!

Meet Jake.

Meet Jake {UPDATE: Jake found a home with a loving family yesterady April 13th. Yay for Jake-ee}

Jake arrived at the studio like summer! He was sweet and affectionate and willing. However he is definitely still a puppy (he was a stray so it's impossible to know for sure, but his age is estimated between 8 and 12 months) When it came time to get his attention, treats were no match for Jeff's lap! Jake seemed to want more than anything, to snuggle, cuddle and be close to someone.



Although it's clear that Jake is part Dalmation, I am fairly positive he is also part greyhound. He has incredibly clear eyes and a greyhound pout. Also he has a great deal of grace for a puppy.



Mr.Jake knows "sit" and although he is a very bouncy little guy, he's very polite, and stands very still when it's time to put the leash on... It's clear that he loves to be walked! Jake is looking for a home that will take time to train him (he is still very impressionable) and give him LOTS of love, because this boy just can't get enough!!!
